Mistinguett Does it Again!

SHOWGIRL FOLLIES

Life in Feathers and Rhinestones

By Arthur J. Bloberger

They fill the stage with their glamour, beauty and grace. They dance and sing and steal the spotlight.

They're some of Las Vegas' most valuable performers, real live women who have carried the weight of many shows on their shoulders (not to mention their heads). From classic Strip shows such as "Splash" and "Jubilee" to "Enter the Night," "Les Girls" and more, they've given their all. But now they're not in the background anymore. It's center stage, spotlight on the showgirls!

“SHOWGIRL FOLLIES: Life in Feathers and Rhinestones” is the latest production from American Theatre Roundtable Musical Hall of Famer Mistinguett, who put nine shows on the Las Vegas map from 1981- 2007, including "Erocktica," "Skintight," "Lipstick Cabaret," "High Voltage" and "Bareback," to name a few, not to mention a host of others in Reno and across the world - more than 400 shows on five continents. And she's fresh off the success of two of her newest show sensations, "Motown Divas" and "Stand Up and Salute."

“We need to re-crown showgirls the true icons of Las Vegas,” declares Mistinguett, the singularly named entertainment visionary who produces, directs and choreographs SHOWGIRL FOLLIES. “Their beauty graced the stages of pre-corporate Vegas, enticing millions of customers to visit Las Vegas and daydream about returning.”

“Showgirls symbolize Vegas,” she continues. “Their gorgeous figures, elegant, sexy dancing and alluring personalities created a world-renowned atmosphere of irresistible glamour and excitement. Let’s bring back the showgirl show!”

And she did! The first two smash performances were on Jan. 27-28 in Sun City Anthem’s Freedom Hall. But if you missed those, never fear - the next two are scheduled for Saturday Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. and Sunday Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. in the Starbright Theater in Summerlin. There's still time to get tickets.

Showgirl  Follies

-World English Dictionary

SHOWGIRL FOLLIES features a who's who of talent, with resumes longer than the ladies' legs. such as songstress Gabriella Versace (photo right), comic ventriloquist Michael Ziegfeld (below left), magicians Kevin & Caruso and Fielding West, singers Sheldon Craig and Mark Francis (below center), lead dancer Delia Sheppard and special guest, showgirl turned painter Terry Ritter. Joining them are The Mistinguett Dancers - luscious ladies Stacy Law, Troy Stern-Papameletiou, Andrea Avruskin, Kimba Anderson Munford (below right), Nicole Duffel (photo at top), Timmari Putti, and lucky gents Jack Failla, Guy Rendon and Enrique Lugo.

But more than just a world-class variety show, it's a glimpse into the life of these spectacular women, who personalize the production with vignettes about their careers and accomplishments. There are incredible human beings in those beautiful bodies, with hearts as big as their headdresses. You'll probably fall in love with each and every one of them, as did I.

Tickets for the Saturday, Feb. 4, 7 p.m. and  Sunday, Feb. 5, 3 p.m. shows are only $15 for Summerlin residents and $18 for non-residents (it's like a million dollars worth of entertainment for a mere pittance) and they can be purchased at the Starbright Theater Box Office, (800) 595-4849, Pinnacle Community Center (702) 240-1301, Desert Vista Community Center (702) 363-1341 and Mountain Shadows Community Center (702) 966-1410.
