New Entertainment Concept Debuts at Rio Las Vegas Lucha Las Vegas Outdoes WWE with Live Bands, Pole Dancing, Sideshow Freak By Arthur J. Bloberger

Just as the first Wrestlemania at Madison Square Garden revolutionized “sports entertainment” in the ’80s, the tandem of event creators Masked Republic and the Rio Las Vegas may have recently done the same in the hotel’s comfortable Crown Theatre and Nightclub, with a heavy accent on the word “entertainment.” And they called it: Lucha Las Vegas.
What if, when the talent comes to the ring, their theme songs are played by a kick-ass live rock band? How about two kick-ass live rock bands? Even better, one of the bands is a “rudos” band, and the other is a “technicos” band! (Editor’s note: In Lucha Libre, Mexico’s highly popular brand of professional wrestling, “rudos” means “bad guys” and “technicos” means “good guys.”)
But this show features far more
than just top musicians and
luchadores (Mexican wrestlers,
or more literally: fighters), it
also sees performances by top
stars from the worlds of MTV’s
Wrestling Society X, the
National Wrestling Alliance,
Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling
Guerrilla, and even talent from
TNA (Total Nonstop Action) and
the WWE (World Wrestling
Entertainment).
And what if you throw in another Las Vegas adult entertainment staple – an erotic pole dance? And what if that pole dance was done by the luscious and scantily-clad Lizzy Valentine (pictured above), one of America’s sexiest lady wrestlers? And how about if the evening’s officials are all lovely, leggy divas as well, such as referee Lucky O'Shea? (See photo right.)
Let’s say you also feature a pair of famously former WWE stars in a freaky, carny-type sideshow? Formerly known as “Kizarny,” SiNN Bodhi and his wife/assistant, former WWE diva Stacy “The Kat” Carter (both pictured above), awed and totally grossed-out the audience with a painful variety of sick tricks, from flesh-piercing darts thrown at Bodhi’s bare chest and back to his ass in an electric chair, stairs of swords, and even the pyro for the evening (which actually exploded on Bodhi’s chest). WWE Legend Jake the Snake Roberts, who toured with SiNN when they headlined the Jim Rose Sideshow Circus, said, “SiNN Bodhi is ahead of his time and too dangerous for WWE to control.”
And that’s
not even to mention yet the
acrobatic “technicos” vs.
“rudos” in the squared circle!
Before a standing-room-only
crowd, featured matches included
current Enterprise Wrestling
Association Champion Scorpio Sky
(who also appeared in a Super
Bowl ad last year being given
the Attitude Adjustment by John
Cena) defeating luchador Black
Tiger; the 500 lb. Alofa the
Samoan Tank (a cousin of The
Rock) squashing an unknown
masked Mexican tag-team in a
handicap match; masked wrestling
throwback Matt Classic (from
parts unkown) easily crushing a
brave member of the audience;
Los Pochos Guapos, (Aaron
Aguilera and Joey Kaos),
victorious over That ’70s Team
(Joey “Magnum” Ryan and The
Disco Machine);
But it was the main event which set the room ablaze, as some of the most famous luchadores of all time squared off in an edgy tag-team match that featured Blue Demon, Jr and the mysterious El Apostol against the team of El Hijo de Rey Misterio and LA Park (formerly the original La Parka). It was a whirlwind of action which finally saw Park whip Demon raw with his leather belt before pinning Apostol for the win.
More than just a stage show or athletic exhibition, Lucha Las Vegas may be the next step in pro wrestling’s evolution. Scheduled for regular monthly shows at the Rio Las Vegas All-Suites Hotel and Casino, is Lucha Las Vegas the future of sports entertainment in Sin City? Only time will tell. But to get in on next month’s action at the Crown Theatre and Nightclub, call the Rio box office at 1-888-746-7784.
Above, LA Park works over Blue Demon, Jr. Below, clockwise from left, Alofa the Samoan Tank beats two luchadores; Black Tiger pounds Scorpio Sky; Matt Classic pins his victim; The Disco Machine gyrates for referee Lucky O'Shea; the #1 contender for the Minis Championship, Misteriocito; and, a pair of lady wrestlers also see action as a lady manager looks on.
